www.drumstheword.com This is part 8 of a series of beginner videos in which I demonstrate for you the first few drum beats every drummer learns when they start out as a beginner. This video takes drum beats 2a and 2b and combines them into one four bar pattern. By practising this pattern you can learn how to switch between eighth notes and quarter notes with the right hand, two of the most popular right hand patterns. This clip is taken from a video series I intend to complete some time in the near future. I couldn’t resist sharing it with you right now though as I think it will be really useful for a lot of drummers just starting out now. Hope you enjoy the video and please feel to email me at rob@drumstheword.com if you have any questions at all. Happy Drumming! www.myspace.com www.itunes.com Hey guys My name is Rafe. I am in a band called Trick of Disaster. A few years ago I made a video called learn piano in 3 minutes on a whim, and now it has over 130000 views and gets over 300 views every day. So because of that, I decided to make a lot videos. The idea here isnt to take someone from moderate to expert, but to take someone from beginner to moderate. I try to keep things as simple as possible, starting at the very beginning. It doesnt matter how inexperienced you are, the idea is Im trying to keep it so easy that even a novice student who has never seen a grand piano before will learn something. By the way, I know what you’re thinking! Piano is for lamos, why would I want to learn piano? Guitar is where it’s at! The only people who play piano are old fogies who are dead like Beethoven, Bach, and other crappy old composers. But there are actually tons of cool bands that play piano! Here are just a few: John Mayer, Coldplay, Elton John, The Fray, Aliscia Keys, The Beatles, The Fray, Gavin Degraw, Radiohead, Muse and Eminem!

LEARN TO PLAY BLUES HARMONICA – Lesson# 5 – BAJAN PIEDPIPER

Learn to play harmonica. MUSIC 100 Put the video on pause and read these side-bar notes before you watch. There are two aspects of music that particularly interest us – melody and harmony. In blues, the melody will be played by a lead instrument (for us on a harp) and the harmony (chords) will be played -usually – by a guitar or a keyboard such as a piano or organ. Playing blues has to do with improvising. What you want to avoid when improvising are ‘sour notes’ –ie notes that sound discordant! THE FACT IS you can play ANY note ANY TIME! ~ But there is a ‘trick’ to it! There are notes that sound right and some that definitely sound ‘wrong’ ! YOUR EAR TELLS YOU WHICH NOTES ARE HARMONIOUS AND WHICH ARE INHARMONIOUS! HOW TO DEAL WITH SOUR NOTES ~ DAMAGE CONTROL – Trick #1 -ooo- HOW TO PLAY RIFFS THAT ‘FIT’ EACH TIME ~ Trick#2. One of the skills you have to learn ~ is how to cover a mistake. Whenever you play a discordant note, what some call a ‘wrong note’ – you get off it right away! You certainly may use them as stepping stones, meaning when you play it (or them) you just touch them and quickly move to the next note. Another way of saying this is ~ you can use discordant notes as links to bridge one harmonious note to the other. Again, let it be clear: the trick is to not dwell long or linger on the discordant note. In real terms ~ you may use all notes when you play, but discordant notes you use as passing tones. Yes! DO use ‘discordant notes’ – they give your music
